Police to stop use of balaclava masks

By Shirvan Williams

Officers of the TTPS will no longer be allowed to wear balaclava masks during roadblocks and searches. Balaclava masks were used to cover the entire face and head of an officer except for the eyes.

The decision was announced earlier today, August 25, by Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Wendell Williams during a news conference.

“What was decided today, any police unit, whether a single police officer or a patrol or party of officers carrying out a confrontation, as of today will not be using police balaclava, which is that covering that covers the head, mouth and nose with just the eyes out,” he stated.

As an added protection measure for the citizens of the country at least one officer in any search party will be in grey and blue. He also said that investigations into the use of police outfits by criminals have not yet yielded any positive results.
