President-elect Christine Kangaloo To Be Inaugurated Today

President-elect Christine Kangaloo’s inauguration takes place today at the Grandstand of the Queen’s Park Savannah, officially making her Trinidad and Tobago’s seventh President and the second woman to serve as Head of State, succeeding Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes.

Along with dignitaries and personal invites of the President-elect, 500 members of the public have been invited to witness the occasion.

Several traffic restrictions will be in place ahead of this morning’s inauguration ceremony, as follows: 

Parking is prohibited on several streets:

(a) Queen’s Park West, between the intersection of Queen’s Park East and Queen’s Park West and Casual Corner;

(b) Queen’s Park East;

(c) Keate Street, between Charlotte Street and Chancery Lane;

(d) Gordon Street, between Charlotte Street and Dundonald Street;

(e) Frederick Street, between Gordon Street and Queen’s Park West;

(f) Abercromby Street, between Gordon Street and Keate Street; (g) Pembroke Street, between Keate Street and Gordon Street;

(h) New Street, between Pembroke Street and Charlotte Street; and (i) Chancery Lane.

The following streets will be closed off to traffic:

(a) Frederick Street, between Queen’s Park West and Keate Street;

(b) Queen’s Park West, between the intersection of Queen’s Park East and Queen’s Park West and Victoria Avenue;

(c) Dere Street, between Albion Street and Queen’s Park West;

(d) Victoria Avenue, between Albion Street and Queen’s Park West

(e) Chancery Lane;

(f) Pembroke Street, between Gordon Street and Keate Street;

(g) Keate Street between Charlotte Street and Chancery Lane.

Sone traffic diversions are also to be expected:

A person driving a motor vehicle proceeding– (a) south on Queen’s Park East shall continue south onto Charlotte Street;

(b) north on Charlotte Street shall turn west onto Gordon Street;

(c) north on Henry Street shall turn either east onto New Street or west onto Gordon Street.

Stipulations are also in place for parking at the Queen’s Park Savannah, where the ceremony will be held.

Drivers wishing to park in the Queen’s Park Savannah shall enter at the entrance on Casual Corner, as directed by the Police Officer on duty. Drivers with permission to enter the Queen’s Park Savannah may enter at the entrances obliquely opposite Frederick Street and Dundonald Street, as directed by the Police Officer on duty.

Finally, vehicles found to not be in accordance with this order are therefore illegally parked and may be removed by the police and impounded.
