Prince Swanny Arrested and Charged For Marijuana Possession

By Lillian Searles

Popular local Trinibad artiste, Prince Swanny was arrested and charged with possession of 1.5 kilograms marijuana for the purpose of trafficking last week Tuesday.

Police reports say that around 3:30 pm on Tuesday, October 27, officers on mobile patrol on the Beetham Highway stopped a Mercedes-Benz being driven by 23-year-old Taryl Swan, known as Prince Swanny, near the Vehicle Management Company of Trinidad and Tobago (VMCOTT).

There were two other occupants in the vehicle, who were named as Daniel “Bamboo” Charles and Akeem St Hill.

The vehicle was subsequently searched by the officers, who found 1.5 kilos of compressed marijuana.

All three men were detained and later were virtually brought before a magistrate in Port-of-Spain on Wednesday, October 28, and were all granted bail on the possession and trafficking charges.

Possession of small quantities of marijuana was decriminalized in Trinidad & Tobago in December 2019.  However, the new laws only allow for the possession of fewer than 30 grams.

Prince Swanny is known for his multiple hits and contributions to local the dancehall community including his songs Bread Winner, Dreams, and most recently Catch 22.
