By Newsroom

A Prisons Officer has been arrested and charged after he was found to be in possession of prohibited items at the Port of Spain Prison.

Stariel Charles, who has seven years in service, faces charges for possession of cannabis and possession of prohibited articles.

He is expected to appear virtually before the Port of Spain Magistrate court today.

Charles was arrested by officers attached to the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Wednesday, in accordance with the Miscellaneous Provisions (law enforcement officers) Act No.25 of 2019, after being reportedly found in possession of the prohibited items.

A search of the accused’s home on Thursday allegedly revealed further prohibited items such as wrapping paper and what is commonly referred to as ‘hemp cigarettes’.
