Public Gatherings Now Limited To Five

By Newsroom

With 85 cases of Coronavirus and three deaths, the government has decided to amend the Public Health Ordinance to make it against the law for more than five persons to gather at any place. The exception will be the lines outside of the banks, the supermarkets and the pharmacies. The new rules, which will apply until April 15th, will come into effect today. Noting that the government is making decisions based on expert medical advice, National Security Minister Stuart Young made it clear that nothing is written in stone, implying that the rules could be amended when necessary. “Under existing law the police can stop and ask anyone to disperse. “They will be conducting roadblocks and exercises,”  Young stated while revealing that anther bar owner was arrested and charged for carrying on his business like normal. “The police will do what they have to do,” he said, as a matter of fact. The T&T Spirit will be taken off the inter-island seabridge leaving the Galleon’s Passage and the Jean de La Vallette which will each make one run daily between Port of Spain and from Scarborough. The cargo vessel, the Cabo Star, will however continue to be on schedule.
