By Newsroom

Thirty-two year old Dillon Sutherland, who also goes by the alias “Ratty” will appear before an Arima Magistrate today, charged with the 2019 murder of Antonio Richards.

The accused, of Surrey Village, was charged yesterday evening, following advice received from acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Joan Honore-Paul.

Richards, 20, of Campbell Lane, Arouca, was involved in an altercation with a group of men on Tuesday 17th December, 2019, during which the assailants armed themselves with bottles and bricks and hit him about the body. During the incident, Richards was fatally shot. The men then fled the scene.

Sutherland was arrested on Saturday by officers of the Gender-Based Violence Unit in the Arouca district and handed over to Homicide Bureau of Investigations, (HBI) Region 2, officers.

Investigations were supervised by ASP Douglas, while Sutherland was charged by PC Jerome Barker, also of HBI Region 2.
