Resort Manager Granted $400K Bail on Gun and Ammo Charges

A 28-year-old manager of a resort in Matura who was charged with possession of a nine-millimetre pistol and possession of 11 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition was today granted bail with a surety by a Master of the High Court.

According to the TTPS, CHERVON HERNANDEZ, of High School Road, Matura, who pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared virtually before Master Margaret Sookraj-Goswami was granted $400,000 bail with a surety and was ordered to report to his local police station twice per week.

The matter was transferred to the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court to be heard on April 23rd, 2024. The accused was arrested on March 31st and later charged on April 1st by PC Caraballo, of the Matura Police Station (MPS), who led enquiries into the alleged seizure of the weapons following a police response to a report of a dispute in the district.

According to police reports, at 1.20 am on March 31st, MPS police officers responded to a report of a dispute at a resort in the area. While conversing with several people at the location relative to the said dispute, MPS officers observed a male suspect clutching his pants pocket area.

Police became suspicious and approached the suspect. They subsequently carried out a search of the man which allegedly resulted in a pistol outfitted with a magazine and 11 rounds of nine millimetre ammunition were found and seized. He was then arrested, pending further enquiries.
