Retired Judge Stanley John Leads Investigation Into Disappearing Naipaul-Coolman Case File

By Newsroom

Retired judge Stanley John is leading the investigation into the disappearance of case files from the Solicitor General’s Department, related to malicious prosecution suits filed by the nine men who stood trial in the Vindra Naipaul-Coolman case.

This was revealed by Attorney General Reginald Armour today. In a default judgment on Monday, the High Court awarded $2million to each of the men, as the State failed to mount a defence in the matter.

On Wednesday, AG Armour said the file disappeared in June of 2020.

Mr. John will look at the system within the Solicitor General’s Department and make recommendations to prevent similiar  incidents in the future.

The retired judge most recently conducted an audit on the granting of firearm users’ licences in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
