Rookery Nook Fire Victims Get Keys To HDC Home

By Newsroom

Just under a month after three of her five children perished in a house fire at her family’s Rookery Nook, Maraval home, Jeneil Rodriguez was handed keys to an HDC home.

Rodriguez, and her two surviving children, ages 13 and 15, were present at a brief handing over ceremony on Monday.

The three-bedroom unit is located at the Housing Development Corporation’s Vieux Fort Housing Development Complex.

Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Donna Cox, pledged that counseling and other support services will continue to be offered to the family.

“When the incident took place, the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services joined by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development collaborated to provide relief to the family during this critical time. This collaborative response by both Ministries and other state agencies is indicative of developing a whole of government approach to rendering assistance to families in times of need.”

Through the National Family Services Division, the family will receive counselling and psychosocial support.

The family will also access the Ministry’s Furniture Grant to assist with furnishing the apartment.
