Rowley Condemns Capitol Hill Riot

By Newsroom

“A gross affront to democracy and the rule of law in a country which has been viewed as a leading light of representative governance.”

That is how Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has described the mayhem in the US Capitol on Wednesday, in which hundreds of Trump supporters invaded the building, seeking to halt the certification of Joe Biden’s election win- in which four people were killed.

Dr. Rowley was speaking in his capacity as the new Chairman of CARICOM.

He said the Caribbean Community looks forward to the restoration of order and the continuation of the process of transfer of power in a peaceful manner.

Hours after the US Congress was forced to stop its certification process, it finished counting the Electoral College votes which cemented the path for the President-Elect.

The certification clears the way for Mr Biden to be sworn in on 20 January.
