Seventeen Detained For Matura River Lime, Curfew Breach

Exercises conducted in the Eastern Division resulted in the arrest and subsequent charge of 17 persons.

In an exercise conducted in Matura yesterday between the hours of 3:30 pm and 5:50 pm, five persons were arrested for breach of the public health regulations after they were found swimming in the Matura River.

Officers proceeded to Mile Marker 10-1/2 on Toco Main Road, Matura. Approximately 70 feet on the western side of the roadway they observed five persons, three males and two females, in the Matura River.

The group was taken to the station and subsequently charged by WPC Dick-Francis for the offence. They are scheduled to appear virtually at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court on October 22, 2021.

The exercise was coordinated by Ag Snr Supt Khan, supervised by Insp Simon and included Ag Sgt Hazel, Ag Cpl James and officers from the Matura Police Station.

During another exercise in Sangre Grande between 11 pm yesterday and 2 am today, 12 people were arrested for breach of curfew. Nine
were arrested on Robinson Lane, Damarie Hill around 11:05 pm, while three were arrested along Seeree Trace, Foster Road, Sangre Grande around 11:45 pm. All 12 were subsequently charged by PC Boodram.

The exercise was coordinated by Ag Snr Supt Khan, supervise by Ag Sgt Khan and included Ag Cpl Osouna, and officers of Area North Task Force.
