Seventeen-year-old charged with murder

The TTPS has revealed that a 17-year-old appeared before the Children’s Court yesterday charged with the murder of Jean-Paul Perez, which occurred on June 12th 2022.

According to a statement from the TTPS:

“The teenager of the Northern Division, was also charged with the possession of firearm and possession of ammunition, when he appeared in court yesterday, Thursday 17th November, 2022. The matter was adjourned to November 23rd 2022.”

Perez, aka ‘Jah Paul’, 36, a contractor of Arima, was at Malabar Branch Road, on Sunday 12th June, 2022, when he was shot at and wounded by a gunman. He was taken to the Arima General Hospital where he died.

A male suspect was arrested shortly after by officers of the Northern Division who responded to the report.

Investigations were supervised by ASP Douglas, Insp. Ramjag and W/Insp. Sylvester, Cpl (Ag.) Gordon and PC Mc Queen, all of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region Two.

The teen was charged with the offences by WPC Salina, also of HBI, Region Two, on Thursday 17th November, 2022, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Wednesday 16th November, 2022.
