By Shirvan Williams

Eighteen children have been relocated by the Children’s Authority of T&T, following an early morning fire at one of its Child Support Centres. According to reports, a 17-year-old girl is now in police custody after she is suspected of starting the fire which destroyed part of the centre in Northern Trinidad. It is believed that the girl pulled out some exposed electrical wiring which caused sparks and started a fire.

At first, the Children’s Authority stated in a media release that the cause of the fire was unknown.

However, investigations by the TTPS revealed that at around 2.00 am, officers were alerted to the blaze along Crown Street. In other reports, it was claimed that a security guard at the facility said he observed the 17-year-old suspect behaving in a suspicious manner and destroying items at the front office.
