Sinopharm Vaccine Approved For Use By Breastfeeding Mothers

In a change to the Health Ministry’s policy, breastfeeding women are now eligible to receive the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine.

Dr. Adesh Sirjusingh, Director of Women’s Health made the announcement at Monday’s Covid-19 media briefing,

“As a result of the National Immunization Technical Advisory group, which is chaired by the Chief Medical Officer…so they’ve completed their deliberations and as of yesterday (Sunday) a formal decision was made with respect to breastfeeding, after considering all of documentation we are now allowing to officially begin rolling out today, the use of the Sinopharm vaccine to the breastfeeding population,” Dr. Sirjusingh said.

He emphasized that at this time, the policy will not be extended to the AstraZeneca vaccine. 

“The approval does not cover the AstraZeneca vaccine, based on the information before the Committee. To the general population, I am asking you if it’s your turn and you are eligible for vaccination- avail yourself, especially if you are around pregnant women-We want to create a barrier between the virus and these pregnant woman,” he urged.
