Soulja Boy Sued Over Sexual Assault Allegations

By Lillian Searles

30-year-old rapper, Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Way, was sued today for assault, sexual battery, false imprisonment, and infliction of emotional distress by his former personal assistant, who was not named. The woman claims to have been in a relationship with the rapper that developed while she was working for him.

The rapper is also being sued for gender violence, a hostile work environment, failure to pay minimum wage, unpaid overtime and reimbursements, inaccurate wage statements, and more.

In the lawsuit, the woman, listed under the pseudonym Jane Doe, alleges that she began working for Soulja Boy in late 2018 as a personal assistant. She was eventually expected to fulfil the responsibilities of cooking, cleaning, driving, style his hair, and often times, be available 20 hours per day, seven days a week. The lawsuit claims she was promised $500 per week and was never paid. Within the first month of her employment, the lawsuit alleges that the rapper also began sending her unsolicited photos of his penis.

The complaint alleges that by January 2019, a romantic relationship between Doe and Soulja Boy developed and that by February 2019, the rapper was engaging in a pattern of abusive behaviour that included punching, kicking, throwing, spitting, threats, and sexual assaults. The woman recalls one instance where he told her, “I should have killed you,” after a violent encounter in April 2020, locked her in a room “for three days against her will,” and raped her “on numerous occasions.”

The following month, the woman alleges Soulja started sexually assaulting her. She claims he was remorseful at first, and offered to pay her $1,000, but the sexual abuse didn’t end. Instead, it got worse, sometimes even twice a day. “On numerous occasions, and sometimes twice in the same day, [he] would inappropriately touch [her] body, forcefully pull her pants off, and rape her,” the suit alleges.

According to the lawsuit, Soulja Boy attacked Jane Doe in August 2020 to the point where she lost consciousness; she claims she woke up on the lawn outside his home and fled. The complaint alleges that she was denied her belongings and assaulted whenever she returned to retrieve her things.

When she would try to leave in the past, the woman alleges Soulja would lock her in a room without a mattress, food or water. The woman says in the suit that she would be left in there for three days “until she was coerced into not leaving.”

A representative of the rapper told TMZ, “Soulja would never put his hands on a female. He wouldn’t beat a woman or put his hands on a woman … this is non-sense!!!”

Soulja Boy, directly addressing the lawsuit against him, told TMZ, “I vehemently and unequivocally deny these allegations.”He adds … “I am in contact with my legal team and the appropriate legal action will be taken against these lies.”

Jane Doe’s lawyer, Neama Rahmani, president of West Coast Trial Lawyers, said in a statement, “[Soulja Boy]’s treatment of our client, as an employee and as a person who deserves respect, has traumatized and filled her with fear,”

“His abuse imprisoned her physically, mentally and emotionally. When she mustered the courage to flee, he impoverished her. His exploitation severely hampered our client’s ability to re-establish herself in the workplace and in society. We believe he should be held accountable.”
