South doctor dies after botched kidnapping attempt

Rudradeva Sharma, a doctor who was abducted late last night after he finished his shift, has died following a botched kidnapping attempt. Another doctor who was with him is seriously injured. The bandits crashed Sharma’s car and he died at the scene. Both doctors had been bundled into the trunk of the stolen SUV.

According to reports gunmen accosted the doctors and stole 38-year-old, Sharma’s vehicle. They crashed in Claxton Bay along the Solomon Hochoy Highway. All three bandits were also seriously injured in the crash. One has since recovered and is in police custody.

The deceased doctor is the nephew of former Tourism Minister and former Fyzabad MP, Chandresh Sharma. The incident occurred around 4am. 

Officers of the Highway Patrol Unit discovered the crash and took all of the occupants to the San Fernando General Hospital. They recovered a firearm near the scene.
