By Shirvan Williams

Spain thrashed Costa Rica, a short while ago at World Cup 2022. The dominating Spaniard side scored a magnificent seven and Costa Rica could not muster any answer. Just before the half-hour mark in the first half, Luis Enrique’s formidable-looking team were already 3-0 up.

Spain’s team is very young this year and one of their star players, Pedri, of Barcelona, is just 19 years old. Gavi, another Barca player is even younger than that, at just 18 years old. He actually became Spain’s youngest participant at a World Cup here, taking Cesc Fabregas’ record.

Dani Olmo, Marco Asensio and Ferran Torres scored a goal each in the first 31 minutes. Torres, Gavi, Carlos Soler and Álvaro Morata added to the lead in the second half.

It was the first time Spain has ever scored seven goals in a World Cup match and they also became the first European nation with two teenagers in the starting lineup of a World Cup match in 60 years, according to statistics platform Opta.

According to the same source, Gavi is now the youngest goal scorer at the World Cup since Pelé in the 1958 final.
