SRP charged with and choking with intent to commit an indictable offence namely rape

A Special Reserve Police Officer was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with a surety when he appeared virtually before Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay at the Arima Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday 8th February, 2022.

According to a statement from the TTPS the 55-year-old officer of Valsayn was charged with rape, grievous sexual assault, common assault, and choking with intent to commit an indictable offence namely rape.

He was charged with the offences by PC Garcia of the La Horquetta Police Station on Monday 7th February, 2022. The accused is expected to reappear in court on Thursday 21st July, 2022.

The statement added that: “According to a police report, on Friday 14th January, 2022 a woman was at her home, when her former boyfriend visited and requested to speak with her. She allowed him into the house where he allegedly held her down, had sexual intercourse with her without her consent, committed an act of grievous sexual assault and choked her during the act.”

Investigations were co-ordinated by Snr. Supt. Paponette, ASP Etienne and Insp. Ward and supervised by Ag. Sgt. Haynes and Cpl. Ramcharan attached to the La Horquetta Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who were assisted by officers attached to the Cyber and Social Media Unit.
