By Shirvan Williams

The MP for St. Augustine, Khadijah Ameen has called for an immediate return of the Police Mobile Unit at Curepe junction.

According to a statement from MP Ameen, the call comes after a senior United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees official and a business executive were robbed while driving through Curepe. MP Ameen expressed her concern about the safety of citizens and tourists as crime continues to spiral out of control.

“The St. Augustine MP has made numerous appeals to the Government to address escalating crime through press releases, parliamentary contributions, request meetings and letters to the Prime Minister, Minister of National Security and Commissioner of Police. In this latest call MP Ameen says Curepe is a hub where the east west corridor meets the north south corridor and many commuters and businesses will be safer with the presence of the police on a 24-hour basis.”
