State Agencies Told To Reverse Policy Of Rejecting Cotton Notes Ahead Of December 31st Deadline

By Newsroom

Finance Minister Colm Imbert says he has noted complaints that State Agencies like WASA, PTSC and NP have taken decisions to stop accepting old small denomination banknotes before the official cut-off date of December 31st.

In a tweet to his account on Friday, Minister Imbert said he has consulted with the line Ministers for the respective state agencies, requesting that these decisions be rescinded.

All cotton notes and $50 polymer bills with a serial date before 2020 will cease to be legal tender from January 2022.

The Public Transport Service Corporation, PTSC, has already reversed its previous position, and now extends its deadline to accept cotton notes until December 31st.
