A 31-year-old taxi driver from Valencia, SHEVORN WELLS, has been fined $10,000 for possession of 2.2 kilogrammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking by a Master of the High Court in Sangre Grande.

According to the TTPS, Wells, of Cicada Drive, Valencia, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared virtually before Master Margaret Sookraj-Goswami on April 15 and was given until October 30th, 2024, to pay a one-time payment of the fine.

Should he fail to pay the fine by the stipulated date, the accused would be made to serve six months’ simple imprisonment. WELLS was arrested on April 11th and later charged on April 13th by PC Singh, of the Eastern Division Gang and Intelligence Unit (EDGIU), after he was intercepted by police along the Eastern Main Road, Valencia.

According to police reports, EDGIU and Eastern Division Task Force (EDTF), in conjunction with the North-Central GIU and another intelligence agency, were conducting surveillance of illicit activities in the area and later intercepted a silver Nissan Versa driven by WELLS.

Following a search of his vehicle, 2.2 kilogrammes of the Colombian Creepy grade of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $241,443, were found and seized. EDGIU and EDTF officers later conducted further operations, and at 8 pm on the same day, they found and seized one black AR15 with five rounds of 5.56 ammunition in an unfenced bushy area along Farm Road, Sangre Grande.
