Teachers Stage Second “Blackout Day”

By Newsroom

Teachers will stage a second blackout today, on World Teacher’s Day, in continued protest of government’s policy which sees a return to physical classes for fully vaccinated students in forms four, five and six.

TTUTA is upset about the mandate to facilitate in-person learning while also providing virtual lessons for unvaccinated students- which they say was ordered without sufficient consultation.

Last Thursday, the first day of the blackout, only 44% of teachers logged in to virtual learning.

Meantime, Teachers received high commendation from Finance Minister Colm Imbert during Monday’s budget presentation, for their adaptability to the virtual learning platform over the past year and a half.

Though he didn’t detail any specific education policies in his presentation, the Minister said government is committed to the development of a smart education system, supported by a transformation of the digital economy.

Education received the largest budgetary allocation, with $6.9billion.
