Teen Boy Electrocuted At Pointe-A-Pierre Refinery

By Newsroom

The person who was found electrocuted at the Petrotrin compound in Pointe-a-Pierre on Wednesday morning  has been identified as 14 year old Michael Sooknanan.

The teen’s family said the boy left his home at Cotton Hill Road in Mayo last evening and promised to return later that night or on Wednesday morning. He was accompanied by a friend.

He however failed to return home; his body was discovered at around 9am.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter, on suspicion that Sooknanan and a group of friends had been attempting to steal copper at the time of the tragic incident.

The boy’s family maintains, however, that they believe this was not the case.

Releasing a statement on the incident on Wednesday afternoon, Petrotrin offered condolences to the teenager’s family, and cautioned persons to adhere to the compound’s safety guidelines.

“The Company expresses condolences to the family of the deceased, and takes the opportunity to remind the public of the life-threatening danger involved in unauthorized interference with the company’s assets including in particular mechanical and electrical assets. The public is also urged to adhere to all public notices and signage on restricted areas for their own safety,” it said.
