Temporary Cargo Vessel Secured As Cabo Star Remains Out Of Service

By Newsroom

The engine of the Cabo Star has been repaired following a fire which broke out on board the vessel last month.

Providing an update this morning, Port Authority Chairman Lyle Alexander said what is now outstanding, is the replacement of electrical cables which were damaged by the heat. That should arrive in the country tomorrow, after which it’s estimated total repairs should be completed in 10 days, by September 17th or 18th, according to Mr. Alexander.

In the interim, Venezuelan cargo vessel, MV Emprendedora, will temporarily service the inter-island seabridge. The vessel is expected to arrive in the country by this weekend.

The interim vessel was contracted by Bridgemans Services Group, which also owns the Cabo Star.

Alexander says statutory documentation will be sorted out to bring the vessel in service for next week.

For now, cargo is being transported to Tobago via the fast ferries, with priority being given to food, perishables and pharmaceuticals.
