Testing Kits Will Be Sent to Barbados For the 35 Stranded T&T Nationals

COVID-19 testing kits have been sent to Barbados for the 35 Trinidad and Tobago nationals who have been quarantined there after being refused entry into Trinidad hours after the borders were closed. They were on a cruise from Dubai to South Africa and, in trying to get home before the borders were closed  took flights from South African to Oman, to London, and then Barbados arriving on Monday, less than 24 hours after the borders were closed. “Their lawyers have been in contact with me and I agreed, after consultation, to send test kits from our supply for them to be tested. As soon as they complete 14 days quarantine, they will be tested and once negative they will make arrangements, which I will give consideration to, for them to come here,” National Security Minister Stuart Young revealed at a news conference on Friday morning, in response to a question posed by a journalist. “The medical team will advise whether they will be put into state quarantine or not,” he added. Young admitted that he is In contact with Surinamese authorities about the one  T&T national who is stranded there and who has triggered legal action is pending a pre action protocol letter which prompted discussions on his return. As for the T&T students who are abroad, Young drew reference to Jamaica which has a number of students stranded in Barbados who have been told to stay where they are and are being assisted. “Our students are being responsible nationals across the world and we will deal with them on a case by case basis, as we continue to do.
