The Management of the Trinidad and Tobago Inter-island Transportation Company Limited has provided an update about an incident which occurred on the Cabo Star earlier today. In a release they said:

“The Management of the Trinidad and Tobago Inter-island Transportation Company Limited (TTIT) wishes to advise the travelling public that during the 11.00pm sail of the M.V. Cabo Star from Scarborough on Wednesday 18 th March 2020, a crew member complained of feeling unwell. 

The Ministry of Health was immediately contacted and at 6.15am on Thursday 19th March, 2020 upon the vessel’s arrival into port, the local crewman was taken by the Ministry of Health – special ambulance services for testing. The crew member has since been cleared of any symptoms of the COVID-19 virus, and the vessel was given clearance for the continuation of the service by Port Health and the Chief Medical Officer.

During the period that the crew member was taken for testing, the sixty-one (61) passengers and thirty five (35) crew members who were on board the vessel were not allowed to disembark, in keeping with the existing protocols mandated by the Ministry of Health. Subsequently, the Chief Medical Officer and Port Health visited the vessel and conducted screening of all persons on board. Having found no observations of any symptoms of the virus, the vessel intensified its sanitization program for continued operations.

Although clearance was given to the vessel, the Management of the Port Authority/TTIT has decided to resume operations, carrying vehicles only on the M.V. Cabo Star, at least for a minimum of 48 hrs. The M.V Cabo Star is expected to sail by 5.00pm today, Thursday 19 th March, 2020.”
