The Fight Against COVID-19 In The US Is Far From Over, Health Experts Warn

By Newsroom

The number of new Coronavirus infections in the US has reached levels not seen since April.

As a result, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Florida are among the States that have paused reopening plans.

US infectious disease chief Dr Anthony Fauci says the nation has a “serious problem” as 16 states reel from a spike in cases.

As of Friday evening, the US had 2.5 million confirmed cases of the virus- and 127,000 deaths.

At the first White House task force briefing in two months, Dr Fauci said: “The only way we’re going to end it is by ending it together.”

Dr Fauci said the current rises were partially due to regions “maybe opening a little bit too early” coupled with people “not actually following steps in an orderly fashion”.

“You have an individual responsibility to yourself, but you have a societal responsibility because if we want to end this outbreak, really end it… we’ve got to realise that we are part of the process,” he said.
