Thirteen people have been arrested by officers of the North Central Division after a quantity of contraband was seized during a joint exercise conducted by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the Prisons Service at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca.

According to the TTPS, between 4 pm and 10 pm yesterday, the team of officers recovered 28 cellular phones and arrested thirteen persons. Ten improvised weapons, two sim cards and a small quantity of marijuana were also seized.

The police party included officers from the Northern Division Task Force, North and South, North Central Task Force, Special Operations Unit, Guard and Emergency Branch, Arouca, Piarco
Criminal Investigations Department and also the Prisons Emergency Response Unit.

Investigations are ongoing.
