Three men were arrested by officers of the North Central Division shortly after a report of Robbery with Aggravation in the Curepe district yesterday.

According to the TTPS, the victim reported to police that around 1:30 pm, on Tuesday 20th February, 2024, she was at her Curepe workplace when four masked men, one armed with a gun, entered and announced a robbery.

She alleged the men stole an assortment of goods and a quantity of cash before escaping in an awaiting silver X-Trail motor vehicle. A report was made to the police and officers of the St. Joseph Police Station, assisted by Task Force officers proceeded to intercept the vehicle and the suspects.

Through coordinated efforts, the officers blocked both sides of the Eastern Main Road between Hutton Road and Farm Road, St. Joseph, where the vehicle was seen proceeding at a high rate of speed.

As the vehicle approached the road block, the officers alleged that one of the occupants pointed an object resembling a firearm at them. In keeping with the Use of Force Policy, an officer discharged his firearm in the direction of the vehicle.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop a short distance away and four occupants exited and attempted to flee. A search of the surrounding area resulted in the arrest of three of the suspects, one of whom sustained a gunshot wound to the upper left shoulder.

He was conveyed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for treatment.

Quantities of goods and cash were recovered from the vehicle. Assistance was sought from the North Central Division Task Force, Area East, the Emergency Response Patrol and the Air Support Unit to locate the fourth suspect and a firearm. The three suspects, ages 18 to 26, were arrested in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, in the Central Division, officers of the Gran Couva Police Station, acting on information received, proceeded to a forested area in the Preysal district around 6:15 pm, yesterday. During the exercise, the officers conducted a search which resulted in the discovery of a hand grenade under a galvanize structure. The Bomb Detection Unit was contacted and made the device safe while searches were made for secondary devices in the surrounding
areas.
