Three residents of Couva Children’s Home and Crisis Nursery Removed Following Reports of Abuse

The minister with responsibility for Gender and Child Affairs and the National AIDS Coordinating Committee Ayanna Webster-Roy has stated that on May 13 th 2024, she received an email with reports of abuse in the Couva Children’s Home and Crisis Nursery.

She also disclosed that after reviewing the information, she immediately gave the instruction to the Permanent Secretary, Gender and Child Affairs (GCA), to notify the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and Supt. Claire Guy-Alleyne, Head of the Special Victims Department.

According to a press release from the ministry,

Within an hour of receiving the email, the relevant authorities were notified of the case and on May 14 th 2024, the TTPS Child Protection Unit removed three residents from the Home. The matter was also sent to the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago for their immediate attention.
