Tik-Tok Users In America Brace As The Trump Administration Reveals Plan To Ban The Chinese App

By Newsroom

With the Chinese based Tik-Tok video sharing app soaring in popularity in recent months, the US government is considering banning its use, over fears that authorities in China can use it to “spy” on citizens.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made the revelation, saying the app triggered “national security concerns”.

The US Army and Navy  have already banned service members from downloading the app to government-issued phones.

Last week, India went ahead with its ban- Australia is also having similar contemplation.

Other organizations have also become wary of the app. Wells Fargo barred the app from corporate-owned devices, while the Democratic and Republican national committees have warned staffers about it.

Last month, Tik-Tok, in a transparency report, revealed that it had received requests for user information from 500 governments worldwide. It said it complied with about 480 of those requests.
