Tobago Man Granted $15, 000 Bail for Cheque Fraud

The TTPS has disclosed that a Tobago man was granted bail in the sum of $15,000, by a Justice of the Peace, after he was charged with the offence of Uttering a Forged Valuable Security.

According to police reports, AKEEL KERR, 23, of Calder Hall, Scarborough, was charged with the offence by WPC Hamilton of the Fraud Squad Office, Tobago. He is to appear in the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on July 1st, 2024.

A supermarket reported to police that a cheque in the sum of $49.25, was issued to a man from whom it bought goods, as payment for said goods. It is alleged, the said man returned the following day and presented the cheque for encashment, but it was discovered that the
cheque was altered and inflated to read $492.25.

An investigation was launched into the matter and a male suspect arrested. The investigation was supervised by Snr. Supt. Groome and Insp. Thomas and Sgt. Jordan, all of the Fraud Squad.
