Tobago Man Granted $5000 Bail For Assaulting His Former Partner

A 32-year-old man has been granted $5,000 own bail after appearing before a Scarborough Magistrate on Tuesday, to answer to the charge of assault by beating.

Kern Duncan, an electrician of Bethel, Tobago, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared virtually before the Scarborough 2nd Magistrates’ Court.

The victim reported to officers of the Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU), Tobago Division, that she was had been assaulted by the accused during an argument at his home on Saturday.

PC Sandy of the GBVU Tobago Division immediately launched an investigation into the report, leading to Duncan’s arrest on Monday.

The matter was adjourned to July 31st, 2020.

The GBVU underscores that all reports made will be thoroughly investigated with the aim of bringing all perpetrators to justice. All victims of gender-based crimes are strongly urged to report all cases to ensure that police can provide the necessary support.
