Trevor Noah exits the Daily Show after seven years

By Shirvan Williams

Comedian Trevor Noah has confirmed that he will leave Comedy Central’s The Daily Show after seven years as host.

Noah apparently made the announcement during Thursday evening’s taping, saying, “I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days.”

Variety magazine noted that late-night television is dying and that shows like the ones hosted by Samantha Bee and Conan O’Brien have also been cancelled. The landscape is increasingly narrowing and becoming less diverse.

“We are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years. With no timetable for his departure, we’re working together on next steps.” “As we look ahead, we’re excited for the next chapter in the 25+ year history of ‘The Daily Show’ as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them,” the network said in a statement, per Variety.
