T&T Hopes To Enter CARICOM Travel Bubble By October 11

By Newsroom

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley is hoping that by October 11th, Trinidad and Tobago will be able to reach a stage in its COVID-19 fight that would qualify it to enter the CARICOM travel bubble, which permits travel amongst lower-risk countries in the region.

This was revealed during Saturday’s COVID-19 update.

A country must maintain a daily case intake of 20 COVID-19 cases to qualify in the CARICOM travel bubble.

As it stands, the bubble includes Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines, thought not all those countries have been facilitating travel.

Dr. Rowley said he is hopeful that once T&T completes its second 28-day cycle on October 11, the country would be in a position to join the bubble.

He added that a relaxation of certain measures could come even sooner, on October 3.

He did not say which of those measures were being considered for relaxation, but noted that the introduction of mask-wearing legislation has greatly assisted in the country’s management and mitigation of the virus.
