T&T Officially Has Community Spread Of COVID-19, Lockdown Measures Reintroduced

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has announced that effective Monday, August 17th, lockdown measures will be reintroduced as an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

It comes after a spike in cases over the past 14 days- pushing Trinidad and Tobago into the stage of community spread of the virus. 

Presently, there are 325 active cases, 48 of which were recorded on Saturday morning. 

However, Dr. Rowley confirmed that the Secondary Entrance Assessment examination will continue as planned on August 20th. He urged parents to collect their children as soon as the examination is complete and take them home.

See the lockdown measures announced by the PM below, in effect for a 28 day period:

-In house dining ceased (Take-away and curbside orders only)- applies to restaurants and food courts.

-Beaches and rivers closed.

-Places of Worship to Close.

-Gyms to Close. (Outdoor exercising such as jogging allowed, but  persons MUST wear masks)

-No contact sports allowed.

-Waterparks closed.

-Bars, casinos, cinemas closed.

-Public Gatherings reduced to maximum 5 people.

-Weddings, funerals, christenings, 1- people allowed.

-Maxis-taxis and taxis to operate at 50% capacity.

-Restricted travel to Tobago via air and sea bridge.

-Schools closed until further notice, potentially until December 31st.

-Government exploring legislative  framework to make face mask wearing mandatory.
