T&T To Receive 305,000 Pfizer Vaccines From US

By Newsroom

Confirmation today that Trinidad and Tobago will benefit from a donation of 305,000 Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines courtesy the US government.

This is Trinidad and Tobago’s second largest vaccine donation to date- second to China’s 100,000 doses.

The largest shipment of vaccines to T&T to date- 800,000 doses, was purchased from China.

The donation from the US is one of six shipments of the Pfizer vaccine to CARICOM countries, as part of United States’ commitment to provide “safe and effective vaccines to as many people around the world as fast as possible”

The Bahamas will receive 397,000, Antigua and Barbuda 17,550, Barbados, 70,200, St Kitts and Nevis, 11,700 and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 35,100.

Speaking at a press conference on July 17, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley revealed that any donation of Pfizer vaccines would be reserved for minors 12 and older, given the Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccines do not have this kind of approval for people under 18.

“If we get our hands on a supply from the United States, the first call on those vaccines would be our high school age population and that will put us in good stead to present them at school in September,” the PM said at the press conference held at the Diplomatic Centre in St. Ann’s.

“If there are any of you out there waiting for the Pfizer (vaccine), as long as you are not in the secondary population, you will be waiting,” he added.
