A 25-year-old man has appeared before a Master of the Court, charged with the double murders of Amy Walcott and Roshan Ali, which occurred in December 2023.

According to the TTPS, JIAIR MELONEY, of Arima, was also charged with three counts of Shooting with Intent, Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition, when he appeared in the Arima High Court on Wednesday 10th January 2024.

The matter was adjourned to February 9th, 2024. Walcott, 21 and Ali, 16, both of Arima, were at a house in the Demerara Road district, on Thursday 28th December, 2023, when an armed assailant entered and opened fire at them. Walcott died at the scene, while Ali was taken to the Arima General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday 29th December 2023.

One male suspect was arrested in connection with the incident on January 3rd, 2024 by officers of the Pinto Police Post. Investigations were supervised by ASP Victor, Insp. Ramjag, W/Insp. Sylvester and Sgt. Ramoutar, all of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region Two.
Maloney was charged with the offences by W/Cpl Thompson, also of HBI Region Two, on Tuesday 9th January 2024, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Monday 8th January 2024.
