Two brothers who are medical doctors in Belize have both died from complications related to Covid-19.

Doctors Kevin and Kenneth Guerra died one day apart, on December 12th and 13th. They are the first healthcare workers in Belize to have died from the virus.

In a statement, the country’s Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat said the Ministry values the health of its frontline workers and continues to work diligently to ensure frontline workers remain prepared and equipped for any impact from COVID-19.

At a Covid-19 briefing on Monday, Director General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, noted that healthcare workers make up three percent of the world’s population but account for 14% of global Covid-19 cases.

It’s in this vein that he urged governments worldwide to ensure there is a sufficient supply of PPE for frontline healthcare workers.
