A Regiment Private and a 30-year-old man were both denied bail after appearing before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate yesterday in connection with a missing rifle from the Teteron Army Barracks. Both men were charged on June 11 for the missing Galil Assault Rifle and one magazine. The firearm was retrieved after an active investigation on June 9 in the vicinity of Bellerand Recreational Park in a black garbage bag to the side of a concrete structure.

The matter was postponed to June 14th when the men are expected to appear before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor. PRIVATE RENALDO WANZA, 22, was charged with two counts of Misbehaviour in Public Office; one count to wit the Larceny of the Galil Assault Rifle and the other count to wit the subsequent Transfer of same, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Possession of Ammunition.

While BRANDON MOONSAMMY, 30, of Macoya Settlement, Tunapuna, was jointly charged with Private RENALDO WANZA for Misbehavior in Public Office to wit Transferring a Firearm and Receiving the Galil Assault Rifle knowing same to be stolen. Both men were charged on June 11th for the missing Galil Assault Rifle and one magazine, which was reported missing from the Pioneer Department of the Teteron Army Barracks, Chaguaramas last Sunday.

The missing Galil was retrieved after an active investigation onJune 9th in the vicinity of Bellerand Recreational Park in a black garbage bag to the side of a concrete structure. The investigation was spearheaded by Senior Superintendent Henry, Inspector Grant with the support of Sergeant Jeanville, Legal Officer and lead investigator Cpl (Ag.) Sifontis of the Western Division.
