Two Venezuelan nationals remanded into custody on drug trafficking charges

Two Venezuelans were denied bail and remanded into custody on charges of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

OSCAR ENRIQUE CORDOZA GILLEGAS, 24, of Caroni Savannah Road, Charlieville and ANGEL GARCIA, 21, appeared virtually before Magistrate Adrian Darmanie at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court, today December 15. Both men who live at King Street, Princes Town, were charged on December 14th.

The matter has been postponed to January 12, 2022. According to police reports, officers of the Port of Spain E-999 unit were on mobile patrol on the Uriah Butler Highway, when they observed two Venezuelan nationals in a vehicle, a driver and a front seat passenger. The driver was reportedly driving in a dangerous manner.

When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle the driver refused to stop, and instead, sped off. The driver crashed into the drain and the men then fled the vehicle. Police gave chase and
the men were subsequently held a short distance away.

During a search of the vehicle, two packets of cocaine were discovered in a pink bag. The total combined weight of the cocaine seized was 2.5 kilogrammes.
