Two Venezuelan Women Rescued, Four Suspects Arrested

Police have detained four people, two of them Venezuelans, during a rescue exercise carried out at a house in Cunupia last night.

The Multi Option Police Section (MOPS) received a request for assistance from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) relative to a report of the trafficking in persons on Friday afternoon.

During the hours of 6:30 pm and 11:30 pm, members of the Special Investigations Task Force of the SIU and officers of MOPS, executed a search warrant under the Trafficking of Persons Act, at an apartment located at the Southern Main Road, Cunupia, where two women, ages 24 and 28, both Venezuelans, were found and rescued.

Both women reported to the police that they were kidnapped, robbed, assaulted, and falsely imprisoned for the past three days. Four suspects were also arrested and are presently in police custody. Enquiries are continuing by officers of the SIU.

The suspects, two of whom are from Trinidad, are aged 39, 31, 21, and 19.
