UK Revokes T&T’s Safe Travel Status, Imposes Quarantine Requirement

Trinidad and Tobago has been removed from the UK’s safe travel list, with the recent spike in cases now requiring anyone leaving T&T to go to the UK, to undergo a 14 day quarantine upon arrival.

The new measures, which were announced by the UK Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, comes into effect at 4am on Saturday (August 22). 

Two other countries, Austria and Croatia, have also been removed from the list.

While Trinidad and Tobago’s borders remains closed, repatriation flights are allowed to leave once given the appropriate authorization by the Minister of National Security.

Trinidad and Tobago is currently at the level of community spread of the COVID-19 virus, with 44 cases recorded on Thursday morning pushing the number of active cases to 578. 730 cases have been recorded in the country since the first case on March 12th. 

The UK has so far recorded 322,280 COVID-19 cases to date.
