UNC Councillor Among 31 People Detained For Anti-Vaccine Protest At QPS

Thirty one people who attended an anti-vaccine protest at the Queens Park Savannah on Tuesday have been formally charged by police.

They include UNC councillor for Aranguez/Warner Village, Amit Sooknanan, conservationist Gary Aloud and Umar Abdullah, leader of the First Wave Movement. 

They are charged with breaching the Public Health Regulations, which mandates that public gatherings are not to exceed 10 people.

The group is due to appear in court on January 3rd to answer the charge.

The group was arrested and charged by Sgt (Ag.) Bowen and PCs Marshall, Chaitu, Gangoo and Hypolite, of the Port-of-Spain Division, for gathering in excess of 10 in a public place.

The arrested persons were later conveyed to the Woodbrook and St. Clair Police Stations where they were charged and given station bail by JPs Stephen Young and Abraham Ali, respectively.
