UNC loses election appeal

By Newsroom

The United National Congress (UNC) has lost its challenge against a Court of Appeal ruling in its election petitions challenge from 2016. The UNC challenged the decision of a three-judge Appeal Court panel, which included Chief Justice Ivor Archie. The application was filed when they lost the San Fernando West seat to the ruling People’s National Movement.

The decision which was unanimous was made by Justices of Appeal, Gregory Smith, Peter Rajkumar and Mark Mohammed, earlier today. The UNC accused Archie of being biased in his decision because of failing to disclose he and PM Dr. Keith Rowley shared correspondence about HDC housing, which they believed eventually influenced his decision to deny the election appeal.
