Update from the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government

By Shirvan Williams

According to an update from Rural Development and Local Government minister, Faris Al-Rawi, a short while ago, all of the regional corporations including CEPEP will be deployed for clean-up efforts once the rains subside.

He also gave an updated incident report. There have been 83 significant flooding events with 41 in direct control and the rest currently being managed. There have also been 137 significant landslips. Fifty-two have been tended to so far.

Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales stated that in a number of cases because of inaccessible roads, the interventions required for the restoration of electricity are not possible because those roads need to be cleared first.

Also present at the news conference was the Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinannan who warned that even though the Lady Young Road is open motorists should still exercise caution as more landslips are possible over the course of the day.
