US Capitol On Lockdown After Trump Supporters Storm Building

By Newsroom

Supporters of US President Donald Trump took their loyalty to another level on Wednesday, storming the US Capitol in protest of the election result.

Parts of the building had to be evacuated, putting an abrupt pause to a ceremonial event affirming that President-elect Joe Biden won the November election.

Police officers drew their guns as protesters tried to break into the House chamber, however in many instances the emboldened protesters outnumbered law enforcement and managed to break down security barriers.

US Vice President Mike Pence, who was presiding over the joint session of Congress, could be seen rushing out of the Senate chamber amid the sounds of protesters who surrounded the Capitol.

The doors of the Senate were closed and locked, and senators were told to stay away from the doors.

Some lawmakers were seen praying.

The chaos was triggered after President Trump spoke to a large crowd in front of the White House, vowing that he would never concede to Biden and baselessly asserted that the election results were fraudulent.
