Vaccines To Arrive From Covax Facility Next Week

By Newsroom

Trinidad and Tobago is set to receive its initial 33,600 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine from the Covax Facility next Wednesday, March 31st.

This is according to a tracker on the Pan American Health Organization’s website.

The news comes as a relief after weeks of uncertainty over an exact arrival date for the shipment.

The initial batch is one-third of the 100,800 doses Trinidad and Tobago is expected to receive through the Covax facility.

T&T is also expected to receive 40,000 doses of the Astra-Zeneca vaccines as a gift from India and 100,000 of Sinopharm’s vaccine, pending the latter’s approval from the World Health Organization.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said on March 15 that “AstraZeneca is being manufactured in many sites. WHO only approved two under Covax. Those sites are the Serum Institute of India and SK Bio in South Korea. TT will be receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine from South Korea by the end of the month.”

PAHO’s tracker showed that vaccines were also on the way to Guyana, Suriname and Belize.
