When Venezuelan Vice President Mrs. Delcy Rodrigez came to Trinidad and Tobago on March 27th it was for a very brief visit to discuss COVID-19, National Security Minister, Stuart Young insisted.

“It was very short, they took medical precautions and they left immediately after the meeting,”  Young said about the meeting that was held at the Diplomatic Centre in St Anns, one day after the US State Department offered a US$15 million reward for Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro on charges of Narco terrorism.

Young was asked why the borders were open for the Venezuelan VP and not the Trinbagonians who are stranded in Barbados, Suriname and Venezuela.

But he explained that the borders were opened on other occasions when two Caricom Prime Ministers requested technicians from Trinidad.

‘We grant exemptions, on a case by case basis, Young said.

Both Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley have held talks  with Mrs Rodriguez on other occasions when TT discussed energy matters, as the photo above shows a meeting in 2018.
