Veteran journalist Cecily Asson laid to rest

Veteran journalist and editor Cecily Asson has been laid to rest. Asson, who was 64-years-old passed away on December 15 after battling heart complications for some time. She will be remembered for the many young journalists that she helped to mould during her time at the TnT News Centre where she spent most of her career.

Several journalists, especially from the southern part of the country have paid homage to the editor who spent more than two decades at the T&T News Centre publications, most popularly known for the publications, TnT Mirror and Sunday Punch. She then moved on to Newsday where she spent another decade.

She was well-known for training young journalists and many of them have gone on to have fulfilling careers in various aspects of the media today. Several of her friends, colleagues and co-workers have expressed their sadness at her passing and recalled her fierce and generous spirit. In the funeral ceremony today, December 21, her son, Jhamille, her three brothers and two sisters once again highlighted her selfless ways.
